Miscellaneous

Artwork

I have had a love for drawing, sketching, doodling and creating things since I was a little boy. I remember I wasn't that interested in colouring my pictures and depended on shading them with a pencil instead. It's only when I got older that I introduced all sorts of colours to my artworks, including mixed media prints, trying out unique techniques, and so on.

Music

I started learning the saxophone at the behest of my father, who loved the sound of the instrument but never really got around to learning how to play it. So, he encouraged my brother and I to pick it up so he could serenade to the tunes he so enjoyed.
I learned the instrument from 1995 to 2005, and have several medals for best performance.

Photography

I held my first film camera when I was in school, using an old Kodak camera that my father owned. Film cameras and the accompanied excitement when prints got delivered, is something I reminisce about even now. My first digital camera was handed down to me in 2010 when my brother gave me his Nikon D40. I have no count of how many photos I have taken with it since then. I eventually bought myself a wonderful Fujifilm mirrorless camera in 2019 which I still use. For me, photography is a way for me to tell a story through fleeting moments captured for all eternity.

Baking

I have been baking since I was 4. Yes, that's right. I used to help my mother in the kitchen a lot back then. When I was 7, I took over baking the birthday cakes from her entirely! And since then, I have baked a lot of cakes for every family member! I became a self-learned pro!
In 2020, during the COVID lockdown, I took the baking to the next step - I monetized it, and set up my bakery, MrLongmans. I tried all sorts of new things during the lockdown months, and garnered a lot of customers in Calcutta. I presently run it as a weekend bakery from Mumbai. Want a taste?

Collaboration

‘E-mage’ is an artistic collaboration between Kaustav Majumdar, Promit Basu and Surojoy Gupta.
The project ‘E-mage’ looks at combining emojis, re-creating the alphabets of digital communication and redefining it as a new object of thought and semiotic expression. The process includes humour, irony and several other modes of expression which have universal reflection of life, events and musings.

Paper Engineering

You already know how much I love drawing, but once I discovered the joy of pop-up books, I fell in love with paper! Ever since then, I have developed a deep interest in origami, kirigami and miura-ori paper folding techniques.
